Three day weekend? Yes, please!

Oh, snap. The weekend is almost here (http://on.mtv.com/4haYsS) and for many of us, it’s a coveted THREE DAY weekend.

A three day weekend, because a guy named Christopher Columbus (cue montage: http://bit.ly/1czy) set sail on a quest for drugs, spices, and other miscellaneous items… took a wrong turn, ended up in North America (USA! USA! USA!) and caused the collapse of an indigenous population.

But, whatever. Three day weekend! Sunday Funday’s abound!

For those of you that don’t have Monday off, please accept our apologies and sad-face emoticon.    :(

Regardless of your work schedule on Monday, you folks should check out the Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Festival, which we highlighted back in June. David Mann, the guy behind this festival, is bringing 125+ bands to DC again this weekend (Oct. 8th and 9th).

And here’s the kicker: it’s all for FREE.

DC is known for a lot of things, but among that list, music festivals ranks pretty low.

David is doing something big here, so show some support and get down to U Street / Logan Circle and check out bands from all over the eastern seaboard.

You can read more about David Mann in the Washington City Paper: http://bit.ly/pqLTi8 and more about Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Music Fest here: www.stppfest.com/

I love DC in the fall, it’s so gorgeous and it also means street festivals galore! This Saturday is the H Street Festival, celebrating what’s become one of the city’s most popular new destinations. On September 24, the second annual 17th Street Festival will take place, as will the Barracks…

The $24 million project was once an industrial complex including a power plant.

Freefest Freecap

Oh, Freefest. You were amazing, indeed. Life hurt a little yesterday, but it was totally worth the sun, rain, nudity, children, field that smelled like horse shit, port-a-potties, over priced everything and hipsters.

For those that haven’t been to Merriweather, it’s a great venue for festival like this…if you have a car. Getting there is possible via public transportation (although how exactly is still fairly vague) but then again, it is also possible to rehydrate by drinking your own urine. Since we prefer beer to urine and direct methods of transportation, Zipcar it was. After corralling everyone into our atrociously made-up named car (a Mazda 3 named Metting) we were on our way to Columbia, Maryland.

Once at the venue, we dutifully sprayed ourselves down with bug spray (we felt a little like Nick Cage in regards to the bees there http://goo.gl/7pffw), and began the tailgating. And by tailgating, we mean we guzzled some cold ones on the walk to the entrance. We picked up our tickets, some free crap (t-shirts, posters, a cup that gets you $1 off beer, but you can’t actually have them fill, etc.) that we probably weren’t supposed to get, and made our first stop. Was it to see Eclectic Method (http://goo.gl/3S7n9) or Alberta Cross (http://goo.gl/ozCB7)? Oh, hell no. We “bee lined” (see what we did there?) straight for a beer stand.

Once we were satisfied with our overpriced, yet giant beers, we made our rounds to all the stages. First up on our docket? Bombay Bicycle Club (http://goo.gl/Y1uZb) on the Main Stage. They were great, but about half way through their show, there was a mass exodus, which only meant that Two Door Cinema Club (http://goo.gl/lYn3y) was starting. Following the lead, we left to check them out at the Festival Stage -right beside a giant ferris wheel. Half way through their set, the rain started, but it didn’t stop the muddy dance party. After TDCC we made our way to the Dance Forest to check out Porter Robinson (http://goo.gl/mjSmX) who was half way through his set. We stuck around to dance a bit more with Calvin Harris (http://goo.gl/v7s8N) before we started to head back to the Main Stage to stake out seats for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

The rain had stopped during the Porter Robinson set and the clouds had given way to a super shiny sun, which had us scoping the beer stands for a short line. None available, we ducked into the 9:32 Club, a bare bones mini-me version of the 9:30 Club. Surprisingly empty, we sat in the dark bar, under fans and refueled with tequila shots and beers. Emerging into the sunlight, we headed for the Main Stage.

Damn. That Grace Potter (http://goo.gl/yUsxF). Whew! Be forwarned: man or woman, you’ll have a crush on her. If you don’t, there’s something wrong with you. After a high energy show with GP&TN we got some non-liquid sustenance (and more liquid sustenance) and made our way to Cut Copy (http://goo.gl/5aWDN) and !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk). !!! (http://goo.gl/tLlLo) had tons of energy and kept the crowd moving in the Dance Forest, but before we knew it, it was time to head back to the Main Stage to check out Patti Smith (http://goo.gl/ipFyp).  From there we moved on to Cee Lo (http://goo.gl/np73f) and James Murphy(http://goo.gl/hsRX2). We were pleasantly surprised to see Cee lo’s little T-Rex arms are just as tiny in real life as they seem on TV.

James Murphy hasn’t lost his edge since disbanding LCD Soundsystem. He declared martial law in the Dance Forest and the crowd went wild. We took a little break from dancing and hit the 9:32 Club again to cool down. After a little fan time and some more beer, we were ready to elbow our way to a spot on the lawn for TV on the Radio (http://goo.gl/m1pqX). For those that are fans of TVOTR they were great live, though at times their instruments were turned up louder than their vocals. They seemed to have figured it out midway through their set. Impressed with our spot on the lawn for TVOTR, we decided to stay put for The Black Keys (http://goo.gl/dxWtQ). They were f-ing phenomenal. Not ones to preach religion, but The Black Keys live is about as close as we get.

At the end of TBK’s show, we decided to check out DeadMau5 (http://goo.gl/l8nLF) and Ghostland Observatory (http://goo.gl/NFVZD). Both put on good shows, but we had to go back to DeadMau5 to see him close out.

It was a long, hot, sweaty, and drunk day, but it was totally worth the $0 tickets.

Ahhhh, it’s that time of year again…Virgin Mobile FreeFest is back! Inside the Beltway will be there and we’re looking forward to not only the major acts on the Festival Stage, West Stage, and Dance Forest, but the local acts featured on the Whooznxt Stage (Run on the Sun, Fourth Quarter Comeback, Jennifer Logue, Kingsfoil, Clear for Takeoff) too! For those heading out tomorrow in the rain, remember to check the guidelines of what you can bring into the festival. Be safe tomorrow and have lots of muddy fun.

Everyone in DC is doing the exact opposite today. Is there a song called DC Meltin’? That seems a little more appropriate. In any case, here’s hoping all of you beautiful DC folk are keeping cool and hydrated.

Anonymous asked: Pretty sure you've always wanted to see me naked.. Well.. I'm feeling pretty adventurous today so go to datelink5[dot]com (switch [dot] with .) then sign up and find my profile under the username 'lolsummer69'. I hid my face in the pictures. but I want you to guess who I am and then hit me up on Facebook lol. Good luck.

That’s the thing. We probably did want to see you naked, but all this… sign up for this, use that screen name, then go here… it’s all too much! We’re much too lazy for all this hoop jumping.

For the future: a bottle of booze works much better.
